12 Fantastic Halloween Events for the Whole Family

UPDATED THIS WEEK WITH NEW EVENTS!

There’s so much fun planned in the next two weeks that we decided to do a round-up of Halloween Events. Get the most from this season by stopping by a few of these great Newton area activities!

 

Sunday, Oct. 29th

*3rd Annual Halloween Touch-A-Truck Event
11AM – 2PM
Sullivan Tire and Auto Service, 300 Bedford Street (Route 18), Bridgewater, MA
Families and kids are encouraged to dress up in their best Halloween costumes to collect candy and treats as they interact with the variety of trucks on display, including a Sullivan Tire Commercial Service truck. Attendees also will have the chance to meet and take photos with Big League Brian, who greets fans while on stilts outside Fenway Park before Red Sox games, and take photos with Bigfoot the monster truck! There will be face painting for the kids, giveaways, games and more. Grilled burgers and hot dogs will be available on site for purchase. This event is weather permitting.
*Ticket cost is $5 per person, with a maximum cost of $15 per family.

 

*Haunted House at the Hyde Community Center
5PM – 7:30PM
Zombie’s take over Newton! A Halloween Party and Parade of Horribles. Come for the haunts, fun and games! Free admisison.

 

*Haunted Halls at the Museum of Science
Museum of Science, Boston
9AM –  5PM
All the features you love about the Museum will be here, but with a Halloween-themed twist! This event is free with Exhibit Halls admission. There will be: a DJ-hosted dance party and family-friendly costume contest on Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm; a Spooky scavenger hunt throughout the Museum; Halloween-themed versions of the Museum’s popular drop-in activities and live presentations; Daily Halloween-themed live presentations and drop-in activities in the Exhibit Halls will be open to all visitors.

 

Monday, Oct. 30

*Halloween Escape the Room Event
Newton Free Library, 330 Homer Street, Newton
Times: 4PM, 5:15PM, 6:30PM, or 7:45PM
It’s Halloween eve and you’ve been invited to a special dinner party at the library with Dr. Neverdie. As you enter his private library with a group of your friends, the door squeaks closed and clicks. And with that you are locked in. Escape the library before Dr. Neverdie can begin his sinister experiments. Register online at http://newtonfreelibrary.net/events for a timeslot. Up to eight people can register for each time. Please show up at least 5 minutes before. They will also be doing zombie makeup and playing Escape the Room board games from 4:00-9:00PM. Feel free to come hang out, we’ll have refreshments available. First floor Periodicals Area.

 

Tuesday, Oct. 31

*Halloween Crafts Drop-In
Newton Free Library
1:30PM – 3PM
Costumes are encouraged for kids 2 – 5yo when they drop in for some fun Halloween crafts at the library!


*Trick or Treat at Historic Newton’s Museums

5PM – 7PM
As you make the rounds with your children on Halloween night, please stop by the Jackson Homestead and Museum and the Durant-Kenrick House and Grounds for treats and free museum admission tickets that may be used throughout the fall. Enjoy trick-or-treating at the historic homes that are part of the neighborhood.

Friday, Oct. 20

*Annual Pumpkin Float at Boston’s Frog Pond
5PM – 8PM
Bring the entire family to the 4th Annual Pumpkin Float at Frog Pond featuring floating pumpkins, luminaries and fun family activities. Refreshments, music and child-focused activities will make this a frightfully-fun way to celebrate Halloween! Be sure to Bring-Your-Own Pumpkin – Bring your carved 8-inch pumpkin (must be hollowed out) to one of the drop-off areas alongside the pond. They will illuminate them and float them for you. Watch as the pond fills up with glowing pumpkins.

 

Saturday, Oct. 21

*Trick or Treat at The Street in Chestnut Hill
33 Boylston Street, Chestnut Hill
1PM -5PM: Please join us for a spooktacular afternoon filled with enchanting treats. Kids & canines in costume encouraged! Be sure to stop by our merchants for trick or treat goodies.

1-3pm Face Painting by Art on The Spot
1:30-3pm Live Performance by Kidville
3-3:30pm Dog Costume Contest Hosted by Polkadog Bakery on The Green

 

Sunday, Oct. 22

*Angino Fall Festival @ West Suburban YMCA
245 Church Street, Newton Corner
2:00PM-4:00PM
Come to the Y on Sunday, October 22nd from 2-4 pm as they kick-off our annual Open House Week with a Fall Festival (presented by the Angino Family) outside on the New Balance Track & Field. Includes: Family Zumba Class, Train rides, Pumpkin Decorating, Curious Creatures, Bouncy House, Activity-Climbing Wall, and more.

 

*NMF Community Kids’ Rockin’ Halloween Party
John M. Barry Boys & Girls Club of Newton, 675 Watertown Street, Newton
3:30PM – 5:30PM
The Newton Mothers’ Forum invites you to their Rockin’ Kids’ Halloween Party! Featuring The Stacey Peasley Band, plus kids crafts, face painting and balloon animals – this party is sure to delight even the most discerning ghosts and goblins. Kids 7 and under (costumes optional) and their parents or caregivers. Including snacks for the kids and coffee for the grown ups.
***FREE for NMF members. $20 per family (cash only) for non-members.
***All proceeds donated to the Boys & Girls Club of Newton.

 

Thursday, Oct. 26

*NewTV Studio’s House of Haunts
23 Needham St., Newton
4 – 7PM
It’s that time of the year again when ghouls and goblins will be out looking for a scare! NewTV’s fifth annual House of Haunts is a free family-friendly event offering pumpkin decorating, a costume competition, a scavenger hunt and more.

 

Friday, Oct. 27

*Sophia’s 13th Annual Haunted House for Charity – The Science of Fear
18 Washington Park, Newtonville
5:30 – 8PM
Once again, we’ve turned our ancient stone basement into a HAUNTED HOUSE filled with spooky stuff, especially for kids! Skeletons… spiders… ghouls… eyeballs… and over 20 live actors! Admission: The $5.00 admission fee gives you a full tour of the haunted house. All proceeds (100%) are donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank. Saturday, Oct. 28

*Halloween Pet Parade
Faneuil Hall Marketplace, 4 South Market Building, Boston
12PM – 4PM
Head over to the West End for the annual Halloween Pet Parade and Costume Contest! Dress up your pet and parade around Faneuil Hall Marketplace then walk the red carpet in front of a panel of judges! Prizes are awarded for Top 3 Best of Show, Best Owner & Pet Combo, Best Local Representation and Most Creative. Registration for the costume contest is required ahead of time. The parade starts promptly at 12:00 pm and continues right into the costume contest.
