This week in our Holiday Showcase we’re excited to feature artist Ben Raynes and his Moving Paintings. These charming watercolor dioramas bring landscapes to life, connecting the viewer with the art.
Ben Raynes became fascinated by the potential for 3D printers in 2013. Over time, he had the idea to add 3D-printed gears to his watercolors to create moving — one might almost say ‘living’ — artwork. Ben’s original watercolors draw from every aspect of his life and are arranged in layers, encased in glass-fronted wooden boxes, and made to come alive through a hand-crank gear-mechanism. We hope you enjoy these unique pieces of art!
