ICA Free Thursdays – Outdoor Music, Art, & More!

Our area is rich with museums and we’re fortunate to have such cultural abundance at our fingertips. I’d like to say my family goes often but, in fact, we don’t go nearly enough. Luckily, there’s my Summer Bucket List to nudge me out of my creature comforts! My husband is a big fan of the ICA on Boston’s Waterfront and during the summer they offer ICA Free Thursdays Nights.

My husband, kids and I just went this past Thursday and had a great time on an absolutely *perfect* summer night. Here are a few tips to set your families up for success:

  • Bring food. They only have limited food available and a food truck or two outside the entrance. Most people brought small totes or coolers and ate picnic-like dinners.
  • Bring friends. My husband and I could have sat and listened, talked, enjoyed for much longer than we were able to but our kids got bored. Grab another couple with kids and they can have adventures or dance on the huge deck. And then all of you can head inside to check out the art exhibits that are (usually) very family-friendly.
  • Park in one of the lots. There’s a lot one block away and it’s well worth it to park there vs. driving around for an hour. You’ll pay $15 – 20.

Now get your calendar out!

The Ladles

From July 7th – August 31st, Berklee College of Music’s best bands bring “Harborwalk Sounds” to the ICA’s gorgeous outdoor waterfront space. For free, the public is invited to gather for amazing concerts with food, drink and museum admission. To me, it sounds like a perfect Boston summer evening.

*All events are on Thursdays from 5 – 9PM
