When Kids Need Better Haircuts

In the past, I’ve taken my kids for haircuts to “kid salons,” which were fine when they were small. They had distractions and free trinkets that kept my kids from freaking out about a stranger holding a sharp object to their heads. But now they’re in elementary school and it’s time to explore other options.

I don’t want to spend what I pay my “adult-hair-stylist” but I also don’t want my kids coming home with bowl cuts or shaved heads. One idea is to check with your salon – sometimes an assistant will be available when you’re getting your hair done. They may offer (or you could suggest!) a break on the cost. My own salon doesn’t cut kids hair, so after much research, I’ve developed a list of parent-recommended places to take your children for good haircuts that are priced competitively. (And if you’re looking to save more, ask if the blow dry is an additional cost.) From straight-up salons to old-fashioned barbershops, they’re all here.

Happy haircutting!
