Review: Davio’S Power Lunch

My family has lived in Newton Corner since 2009 and have never been to Davio’S at the The Street. A shame, really, as it’s only 10 minutes from my home. Davio’S features Northern Italian-inspired handmade pasta, steaks and seafood. Impressively, everything they serve, aside from their well-known spring rolls, is made in house.

I was therefore excited when Davio’S invited to try their new Power Lunch. Don’t let the name fool you. While ostensibly geared toward the business crowd, the Power Lunch is also designed to please the palates – and schedules – of stay-at-home and work-at-home parents alike. Holly and I (Jen) drove separately and were happy to find easy parking in the lot. (Davio’S is located next to the Superlux theater at The Street.) A nice change from circling Newton Centre for a hard-to-find spot. We entered Davio’S to find a large venue with high ceilings and huge windows, lending a lot of natural light to the open space. There are many seating options available, and we were pleased to find ourselves in a comfortable booth.

Shortly after we were seated, our server brought us fresh and tasty house-made rosemary bread and potato chips. For starters, I ordered broccoli bisque and Holly selected the arugula salad, which we swapped part-way through. Both of us agree: the broccoli soup was too-die-for, and the baby arugula salad with roasted beets and goat cheese was a light and refreshing alternative.

For entrees, we ordered the hand-rolled potato gnocchi with roasted tomatoes, asparagus, and fresh herbs, which was decidedly scrumptious yet manageable in terms of portion size. We also ordered the crispy chicken cutlet on brioche with fontina and prosciutto. For our taste, we found the sandwich to be a bit heavy for a lunch meal, and we preferred the other dishes over the chicken (though we did enjoy the fries). In hindsight, we should instead have selected the third entree option — salmon on a bed of quinoa and asparagus. Next time… We thoroughly enjoyed our time at our Power Lunch at Davio’S – we give it a big thumbs up!
